These introductory one-credit courses are designed to provide classroom teachers with the foundational knowledge that will help them make the transition to technology-mediated learning with greater confidence.

Delivery Model
Each course consists of four weeks of facilitated online activity. This represents a total of 33 hours of student effort per credit.

Credit
Upon successful completion of the course learning activities and assignments for each section, participants will earn one credit. Individuals who successfully complete all three one-credit sections will be awarded a Certificate of Completion. This may be applied toward either the 15-credit Graduate Certificate or 36-credit Master’s Degree in Learning and Technology.

Enrolment
Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis, with registration closing one week prior to the course start. A typical class size is 20 - 30 students. The three course selections may be taken in any sequence, and the order in which they are offered will be based on demand. Insufficient enrolment may result in the cancellation or deferral of any given section.

Course Descriptions

LRNT 518A The Technology Mediated Environment
Examines both the evolution of technology-mediated learning and the diversity of technologies currently available for instructional use. Also considers the ways in which technology-mediated learning influences instructional effectiveness and some of the social and professional implications of using leaning technologies.

LRNT 518B Knowing Your Learners
Examines socio-cultural and technological influences on the learning styles of the Net Generation and how these influences may impact strategies and styles of classroom instruction. Prepares participants to consider how the concept of information literacy is evolving and how information literacy, blended with the socio-cultural and technological experience available to the Net Generation can influence teaching and learning.

LRNT 518C Evaluating Online Resources
Examines the factors that need to be considered when evaluating online learning objects, and choosing quality content from the wide range of material available to classroom teachers. Participants will investigate best practices when introducing electronic media to the curriculum.
