Communication Matters: Timothy Coombs on Sports Crisis Communication: An “Industry Effect”
The School of Communication and Culture is pleased to welcome Dr. Timothy Coombs Feb. 27 for a public lecture on sports crisis communication.
Coombs is a full professor in the Department of Communication at Texas A&M University. He is also an honourary professor in the Department of Business Communication at Aarhus University. His research expertise is in crisis communication and his works appear in various publications and journals. He has also authored two books on crisis communication.
Coombs was the 2002 recipient of the Jackson, Jackson & Wagner Behavioral Science Prize from the Public Relations Society of America, the 2013 Pathfinder Award from the Institute of Public Relations in recognition of his research contributions to the field and to practice; the 2014 Business Impact Award from the Association for Business Communication; and is a member of the Arthur W. Page Society. His co-authored crisis research has won multiple PRIDE awards from the Public Relations Division of the National Communication Association for his books and articles. Coombs has worked with governments, corporations and consulting firms in the U.S., Asia and Europe on ways to improve crisis communication efforts for themselves and their clients. He is also the editor for Corporation Communication: An International Journal.
