Veronica Thompson: Happy International Women's Day

Today is International Women’s Day, a day to celebrate women’s achievement here at Royal Roads and around the world, and also a day to raise awareness about discrimination and take action to drive gender parity.

I firmly believe that action begins with education. As Pakistani education activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai has said, “The content of a book holds the power of education and it is with this power that we can shape our future and change lives.”

The Royal Roads Library promotes the transformative power of education and serves as a rich source of digital and physical resources, including a special digital display in celebration of International Women’s Day. There, you’ll find resources highlighting women's contributions to environmental activism, business and leadership, post-secondary education and more, with a particular focus on the intersectional experiences of women of colour and queer women.

I had the great pleasure of speaking with Data Services Librarian Amber Gallant to tell me about this curated list and more.  Watch our conversation and hear Amber’s valuable insights on the curated resources available at the Royal Roads Library.

Visit our International Women's Day webpage for video, community events, stories and links to the RRU Library's digital display.
