President Steenkamp: a warm farewell to Head Gardener Barrie Agar

The gardens on our campus can be such a restorative place. I love to wander through them at all times of year, observing the changes and finding beauty in different and unexpected places. It’s good for my body, mind and soul.

We are, indeed, so fortunate to be able to work, learn and play in this remarkable place, and I’m reminded of the generations of Indigenous families who cared and continue to care so deeply for these their ancestral lands.

Speaking of deep caring for the campus, I would like to extend the warmest of farewells to Barrie Agar, who is retiring as the Head Gardener at Royal Roads after 19 years of service. On behalf of the Royal Roads community, I wish you an engaging retirement, and I want you to know that the garden gates are always open to you!
