President Steenkamp: Support for climate strike

The student-led climate emergency response has been inspiring to watch over the last year. Now, youth leaders are asking for everyone’s support and participation, particularly during the week of coordinated climate strike actions from Sept. 20 to 27.

I have asked our academic teams to join me in supporting these events by shifting exams or other significant in-class activities previously scheduled for the afternoons of Sept. 20 and 27 to other times to allow students who wish to participate the opportunity to do so.

We are also supporting staff members who wish to attend these upcoming events if operational requirements allow.

The response from Royal Roads University faculty and staff at our Sept. 13 Campus Conversation event indicates a tremendous appetite for an active response to the climate emergency. I’m proud of our community’s commitment to addressing difficult challenges.

Thanks to everyone for their support and participation in Royal Roads University’s commitment to climate action.
