President Steenkamp: Business and blooms in Royal Roads’ gardens

I love walking through the gardens and grounds at Royal Roads at all times of the year. Right now in the woodland garden the snowdrops and hellebores are starting to appear, and over in the walled garden preparations are well underway to begin growing vegetables this spring.

In my video this week, I dig into the topic of food gardens with associate faculty member Michael Pardy and Bachelor of Business Administration in Innovation and Sustainability students Celicia Kentsingh and Saumya Ginwala. This unique program is putting students to work solving problems – in this case, how to ramp up food production on our campus.

This is yet another example of the power of place-based learning and of the remarkable opportunity our campus affords as a living laboratory.
