New Royal Roads graduates connect Victoria with Jinhua
Sixty-two of Royal Roads University’s newest graduates have been welcomed into an expanding alumni community worldwide.
They are the first to graduate from a Royal Roads tourism and hospitality management diploma program delivered in partnership with – and at – the Jinhua College of Profession and Technology (JCPT) in China.
Since 2011, more than 250 top-ranked students from JCPT have been admitted to the program, which addresses a need for diploma education in China that incorporates up-to-date Canadian tourism and hospitality content and approaches.
Delivered in English and Mandarin, the program curriculum is developed by both institutions and delivered by JCPT faculty and Royal Roads faculty. Students participate in courses ranging from financial operations to tourism marketing and also engage in an industry internship.
Upon completion of the three-year diploma program, students who meet the language requirement may transfer to Royal Roads’ BA in International Hotel Management. Three graduates of the diploma program were awarded Royal Roads’ Distinguished Scholar’s Entrance Award for transfer to the undergraduate program at a special convocation ceremony at JCPT on June 10.
“We are proud of our graduates and the growing record of accomplishment in Asia to support accessible, quality focused education,” said Brian White, acting dean of the faculty of management. “The opportunity for these students to continue their education at our Victoria campus, strengthens the connections between British Columbia and China in the tourism sector.”
