Making our support visible: President Steenkamp's message on Transgender Day of Visibility

March 31 marks Transgender Day of Visibility, a time to celebrate the vibrant lives and many contributions of Trans, Two-Spirit, and gender non-conforming people. It’s a day to make our support visible, as individuals and as a community; to stand together to make our care known.

In advance of the day, I had the honour of raising the Trans flag together with Ali Blythe, digital experience manager here at Royal Roads. Ali is usually behind the camera capturing moments like these, but this week, he agreed to step into the spotlight to join me in this meaningful tradition, symbolizing our university's unwavering support for the Trans+ community. Thank you also to Campus Patrol Officer Chris Trops for his presence and support.

As you’ll see, it was a heartwarming experience, punctuated by many moments of laughter.

To Trans, Two-Spirit, and gender non-conforming people here at Royal Roads: please know that we deeply admire and respect you for your courage and authenticity. Your journey is valued and celebrated here.
