Dr. CHANG Jui Mei’s generosity of spirit comes from a deep sense of social responsibility and the inaugural Royal Roads Global Ambassador Award recipient continues to give back to the alumni community and university.

As her Royal Roads learning experience took place in Taiwan, Dr. CHANG first visited the campus when she attended her convocation in 2010 to receive her Master of Business Administration. She was as impressed with the beauty of the campus as with the quality of the program.

“I love learning, and I knew my academic pursuits in management would support my business enterprises well,” says Dr. CHANG.

With her bachelor’s in Electronic Engineering from the National Taipei University of Technology, Dr. CHANG founded and is now president of CHYAO SHIUNN Electronic Industrial Ltd. She employs more than 1,000 people in factories in Taiwan and China with sales offices located around the world including the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

A celebrated entrepreneur in Taiwan, leading and contributing to economic development, she was recognized in 2001 with the Global Outstanding Enterprises Golden Award in that country. After completing the MBA at Royal Roads, she was again recognized for her contributions, this time with Taiwan’s Economic Development Outstanding Contribution Award in 2012.

Dr. CHANG says her education from Royal Roads made a strong impact on her.

“My experience as a student at Royal Roads University gave me more confidence to pursue academic achievement,” she says. “After graduating from Royal Roads, I completed a PhD in business administration.”

After her convocation and visit to the Royal Roads campus, she wanted to give back to the university, so she became an alumni leader in Taiwan, serving as president of the Royal Roads Taiwanese Alumni Association from 2013 to 2014. During that time, Dr. CHANG led the successful Global Alumni Weekend celebration in Taiwan hosting nearly 300 Royal Roads alumni from all over the world.

In 2015 Dr. CHANG once again travelled to Victoria to participate in the first Global Alumni Weekend hosted on campus. At the weekend celebrations, Dr. CHANG was presented with the Royal Roads’ inaugural Global Ambassador Award. This award is presented to celebrate and recognize the success of an international Royal Roads alumnus who supports and champions the university internationally.

“Dr. CHANG is an impressive leader who is an excellent example of an alumna achieving further success following her graduation from our program,” says Royal Roads President and Vice-chancellor Allan Cahoon. “She embodies and represents the values of Royal Roads and acts as a strong international advocate for our university.”

With more than 30 years of experience as a business owner, she says her accomplishments have enabled her to help others and she feels it is her responsibility to lead by example.

During her visit to Royal Roads for the Global Alumni Weekend in September 2015, she announced that she would commit $38,000 US toward the creation of the Dr. Jui Mei Chang (張水美博士) Royal Scholarship for outstanding students from Taiwan who are admitted to undergraduate or graduate degree programs offered here.

In addition to her generosity, Dr. CHANG continues to advocate on behalf of the university and is encouraging other global alumni to follow her example and make a donation toward the Dr. Jui Mei Chang (張水美博士) Royal Scholarship so that others can become students of RRU and have a chance to apply their learning to make a difference in their lives and community.
