Royal Roads University and Vancouver Island Ex-Cadet Club partner for Remembrance Day ceremony

Victoria – Canadian Armed Forces members and veterans will be honoured in a Remembrance Day ceremony held by Royal Roads University in partnership with the Vancouver Island Ex-Cadet Club (VIECC) Tuesday, Nov. 11 in Royal Roads’ Italian Gardens.

Maritime Forces Pacific (MARPAC) Fleet Chaplain Doug Friesen will conduct the service. Royal Roads University Chair and Chancellor Wayne Strandlund, VIECC member Herb Pitts and District Co-Commissioner of the Girl Guides of Canada Michelle Winsor will lay wreaths at the event.

Hatley Park National Historic Site gardens, grounds and museum will be free and open to the public on the day, and the university will host a reception in Hatley Castle following the ceremony.

Two documentaries on Victoria’s former military college will be broadcast on CHEK TV on Remembrance Day from 1-3 p.m. Both documentaries offer a fascinating glimpse into the personal experience of cadets at Royal Roads during its years as a military college through interviews with ex-cadets, photos and original film footage.
