Royal Roads researcher Rob Newell has been awarded a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship.

An associate faculty member in the School of Environment and Sustainability, Newell is a researcher with Prof. Ann Dale’s Community Research Connections group, working on projects such as Meeting the Climate Change Challenge.

The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship program is a competitive program which provides funding to postdoctoral applicants, both nationally and internationally, who positively contribute to the country's research-based growth and economic, social and ecological wellbeing. The fellowship provides funding of $70,000 per year from October 2017 to October 2019.

As a Banting Fellow, Newell’s research will involve modelling and visualization techniques to convey potential outcomes of infrastructure decisions to local government and community stakeholders for inclusive community planning and evidence-based local decision-making.
