Royal Roads participates in land disposition process

January 3, 2017

The Department of National Defence (DND) has declared the lands on which Royal Roads University operates to be surplus to DND’s needs, and has begun a formal process of disposition of the property. The university holds a long-term lease on the property, which is Crown land owned by DND.

The disposition of Crown lands is a formal process which includes consultation with Indigenous groups and others. The land disposition discussions have involved DND, the Songhees Nation, the Esquimalt Nation, Royal Roads University and other interested parties.

DND has assured Royal Roads University administration of the commitment to the continued operation of the university in its current location.

Royal Roads University respects all parties involved in this DND-led process and sees this process as an opportunity for collaboration.

Throughout this process the university will continue to remain focused on fulfilling its mandate to provide life-changing education to its growing student community.
