Register now for Design Thinking Challenge 2020

Royal Roads University is partnering with Rotman Commerce for the third annual Design Thinking Challenge and bringing the action to Toronto.

The Royal Roads Design Thinking Challenge differentiates itself from traditional business case competitions through emphasis on empathy and deep analysis, problem framing, prototyping (trying various solutions and evaluating through feedback), collaboration and citizenship. The students work to solve problems by empathizing with the people who use products or services being explored. It also emphasizes the need to rework and retest ideas through prototyping them and receiving feedback.

The challenge will unfold the same as in previous years: teams of business students work together to solve a real-world problem supplied by sponsors. Teams will compete in the challenge’s version of the “Amazing Race”, a scavenger hunt which sends them out into the community to gather insights and helps them get to know members of other teams.

“We’re very excited to partner with a leading business program like Rotman Commerce,” says lead organizer Amy Zidulka. “We are also lucky to be working with Royal Roads BCom alumnus Chris Ferguson, who founded Bridgeable, one of Canada’s top service design companies. Chris will be helping us connect challenge students to leading design practitioners in the Toronto area.”

The challenge begins online in February 2020. A week-long intensive residency and competition follows in Toronto from April 2 to 5.

Teams from business schools across Canada can register now for the challenge. Registration closes Jan. 3, 2020. Check out the School of Business blog for reasons to get excited for the challenge.
