New NSERC funding supports equity, diversity and inclusion at Royal Roads University
New funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) will provide resources to support Royal Roads University’s ongoing commitment to foster an inclusive environment for work, research and study.
The $346,700 award from NSERC’s pilot Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Institutional Capacity-Building Grant program will support programs that focus on the identification and elimination of systemic barriers that impede the career advancement, recruitment and retention of underrepresented groups. For the purposes of this grant, underrepresented groups include women, Indigenous Peoples, members of visible minorities, people with disabilities and LGBTQ2S+ individuals.
“This funding provides opportunities to build momentum in the creation of an inclusive environment at Royal Roads University, where everyone is encouraged to bring their entire self to the workplace, and the workforce is a reflection of the diverse community we serve,” says President Philip Steenkamp.
The work of this project will expand on the Royal Roads University Canada Research Chairs Action Plan and the university’s Everyone Counts initiative.
The establishment of a President’s Steering Committee for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion will kick off the work of the capacity-building grant initiative.
