An evening with Jane Goodall

Sep 28, 2011

Globally renowned primatologist, conservationist and humanitarian, Dr. Jane Goodall is visiting Victoria this fall to deliver a public talk on October 15 at the Alix Goolden Performance Hall. The talk, entitled Reason for Hope: Exploring the Challenges of Science and Soul, is being presented by the Jane Goodall Institute of Canada in partnership with Royal Roads University - Continuing Studies.

Dr. Goodall became famous for her pioneering research with chimpanzees, a study which was launched just over 50 years ago. Today, Dr. Goodall is one of the world's leading environmentalists and a UN Messenger of Peace. She travels the world more than 300 days a year talking to audiences about the critical importance of protecting chimpanzees and other Great Apes, and becoming better stewards of our planet.

"We were thrilled to partner with the Jane Goodall Institute of Canada for this unique opportunity and to welcome Dr. Goodall to the west coast," said Hilary Leighton, director of continuing studies at the university.  "Jane's work has forever changed our notions of humanity. Our ties to Dr. Goodall's work run deeply. We have Royal Roads graduates that have gone on to work and volunteer at JGI, which supports wildlife research, education and conservation."

Dr. Goodall will be speaking about her experiences in the field, her reflections on global conservation issues and her reasons for hope for the future of the planet.

"In the past 20 years Dr. Goodall has inspired thousands of Canadians from all walks of life at grassroots events and lectures across the country. Her messages of hope resonate powerfully with people and empower them to change their lives," said Jane Lawton, Executive Director of the Jane Goodall Institute of Canada. "We are very grateful to the partners, like Royal Roads University, that make these tours possible, and equally grateful to the many Canadians that have chosen to support the critical conservation and education work undertaken by the Jane Goodall Institute of Canada."
