Business Students from Mexico to Montreal Converge at RRU
Victoria - On Thursday, March 18 to Saturday, March 20, 14 teams of business students will descend on the picturesque campus of Royal Roads University to compete for the title of top case team at the International Undergraduate Case Competition.
For three days, teams from as far away as Mexico City will pore over real-world business cases and make presentations to a panel of judges made up of prominent local business experts.
"We're overwhelmed by the response to this year's competition," said Manpreet Dhillon, executive director of the student board that is staging the event. "We have 14 teams coming and the positive response from teams across North America and beyond indicates that this case competition is becoming one of the top events in Canada for commerce students looking to exercise their business skills."
Teams have three hours to review a business case and come up with solutions to challenges and strategies to take advantage of opportunities indicated in the case file. Judges then put questions to the teams and assess their responses. By Saturday morning, three teams will be left to compete for the top prize.
"Our team just came back from Concordia's case competition with the top prize, so I think they'll do very well here as well," said Jo Axe, associate dean of the Faculty of Management at Royal Roads. "Since our bachelor of commerce degree in entrepreneurial management focuses on preparing students to take on real business problems, their success in Montreal last month really reinforces that we are on the right track as far as business education."
This is the eighth year that Royal Roads University has hosted the International Undergraduate Case Competition. The event wraps up on Saturday with a gala awards dinner where the winning team will be named. CFAX 1070's Adam Stirling will MC the gala which is being held at Olympic View Golf Course and starts at 7:00 p.m.
