West Shore riding may cause swing voters

School of Communication and Culture associate professor David Black offers his perspectives on the upcoming federal election and focusses some analysis of the ridings in southern Vancouver Island.

Black says with this election we have a "great experiment in Canadian democracy", in reference to the unprecedented length of the campaign. He notes approximately 60 per cent of voters, the so-called "swing voters" who normally are not actively involved in politics, could have a significant impact on the West Shore of southern Vancouver Island where the two ridings have been redrawn.

"I don't think there is a political geography or a region in the country that is both so small in terms of square miles, and yet so full of political variety, so full of political surprises," he says.

Black also provides a short analysis between the top three political parties in the race.
