Royal Roads program breaks down barriers from behind bars

A pilot program jointly supported by Royal Roads University and William Head Institution is uniting university students and offenders in a 13-week for-credit course.

The Inside Out Prison Exchange Program offers a transformative learning experience across social barriers.

Collin, a fourth-year Bachelor of Arts in Justice Studies student, spoke with the Goldstream News Gazette about his experience.

Here is an excerpt:

“It helps break down the barriers of preconceptions that some people might have about incarcerated individuals … it prevents us from worrying or thinking too much about what people have done in the past and just see them as fellow academics. We’re all there on equal terms.”
