Refugees and human security: a crisis for Canada?
School of Humanitarian Studies Professor Kenneth Christie along with his colleague Robert Halon, a political science professor at Thompson Rivers University, submitted an editorial to the Times Colonist that focusses on Canada’s role in the current global refugee crisis.
“The ascent of social media has shattered our ability to ignore global crises and now shines light on a tragedy partly made by and certainly exacerbated by Canadian policy,” says Christie. “The slow and feeble efforts of Canadian immigration policy have hindered refuges seeking asylum here.”
Christie adds that a global humanitarian response is required to help protect millions of people who are fleeing from terror and war and he calls on Canada to do more, act now and take the lead in humanitarian principles.

Christie was also interviewed on The House of Common with Frank Stanford on CFAX radio on Sept. 7 to discuss the same topic.
