Global health leader honoured and new chancellor installed
Royal Roads graduates shared the stage with one of the world’s leading scholars and scientists in global health, and the university’s fifth chancellor was installed during spring convocation ceremonies at the Royal Theatre on June 18.
This spring’s convocation ceremonies recognized the achievements of more than 760 students who have earned degrees, certificates or diplomas in the Faculty of Management or in the Faculty of Social and Applied Sciences. In a milestone event for the university, the first graduates of the Doctor of Social Sciences (DSocSci) program were conferred degrees at this convocation. Royal Roads’ applied research doctoral program is the first of its kind in Canada.
Celebrated physician, researcher, and global health and human rights leader James Orbinski received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree in recognition of his contribution to humanitarianism and medical science. Royal Roads installed prominent Victoria businessman and Royal Roads Board of Governors Chair Wayne Strandlund as chancellor.
