Topics:

• Climate change and communities
• Informal learning and innovations in education
Rick Kool was born and raised in Boston, but has lived in BC since 1971. He earned his master’s in science at the University of British Columbia and his PhD at Brigham Young University.
At Royal Roads he founded the only program we are aware of that is dedicated to bridging the gap between science and communications in the study of the environment. It takes much of the science discipline and successfully integrates it with skills often associated with the liberal arts. Thus, the program enables environmental science practitioners to engage communities in a way that provides people with the tools and the opportunity to address pressing environmental issues such as climate change, ecological degradation, restoration ecology and sustainable community development.
