Jonathan Moran, PhD - School of Environment and Sustainability

Originally from the United Kingdom, Jonathan Moran started his career studying the ecology of carnivorous plants on the island of Borneo. In 1996 he moved to British Columbia where he undertook research work at the University of Victoria into the ecological aspects of montane silviculture. Over the last 14 years, he has undertaken work for Forestry Canada, B.C. Ministry of Forests, University of Victoria and the University of British Columbia on projects ranging from forest ecology and the role of salmon-derived nutrients in riparian zones to conifer ecophysiology.

In 2003 he began working on a series of conservation and community development projects in Costa Rica and more recently in Ecuador. For several years he has been involved with hummingbird research in Canada and Central America and plans to expand this research at Royal Roads University.

Moran earned a Bachelor of Science at the University of Edinburgh and a PhD at the University of Aberdeen.
