Brian White is the Director of the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management in the Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management at Royal Roads University.
White was a senior faculty member and coordinator for the bachelor of tourism management program at Capilano College in North Vancouver, BC.
White earned his PhD in Human Geography from Simon Fraser University, focusing his research on the development of ecotourism in Clayoquot Sound on the southwestern shore of Vancouver Island.
In 1972, White founded the Outdoor Recreation Management department at Capilano College and in 1986, the Tourism Management department. In the early 1990s, he wrote the B.C. Tourism Learning System and subsequently developed the Bachelor of Tourism Management Degree for British Columbia.
In 2004, White was honoured as the Canadian tourism industry’s ‘Educator of the Year’ at the Pinnacle Awards in Toronto, hosted by Hotelier magazine.
In 1988, he developed the Whistler Spirit Program, which is still the key customer service training program at Whistler.
He has developed tourism labour policies for the World Travel and Tourism Council where he was the senior human resource policy advisor from 1997 to 2001. White worked on tourism policy and educational development in Vietnam, Bulgaria, China, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Costa Rica.
White was honoured at the 2009 BC Tourism Industry Conference with the William Van Horne Visionary Award for leadership in educational programming and commitment to innovative teaching.
