Allan Cahoon, PhD - President, Royal Roads University

For more than three decades Allan Cahoon has been a professor of business and managment. He worked at the University of Calgary from 1976 to 2001 and took up a posting at the University of Regina where he was vice-president, international and interim president until coming to Royal Roads in 2007. In Calgary he was also a dean of graduate programs, chair and director of research and director for the Americas in the Faculty of Management. He was also the president of the University of Calgary Faculty Association and Director of that University’s OLADE Project on Energy and the Environment.

Born in Alberta, he earned his BA and MSc at Brigham Young University and his PhD at Syracuse University.

He has served on the editorial boards of four journals and has authored, or co-authored over 40 articles, edited or contributed chapters to several books on organizational development and presented more than 75 adjudicated conference papers throughout his academic career.

He has also held teaching appointments at Simon Fraser University and Syracuse University and has been a visiting or adjunct professor at Hunan and Nankai Universities in China; Monash Mount Eliza Management School in Australia; Yamaguchi University in Japan; National Autonomous University of Mexico; and the International Management Center in Budapest, Hungary.

His second language is Spanish.

  • Order of the Good Servant, Faculty Association of the University of Calgary, 1992
  • Chair of the University of Calgary United Way Campaign designated best public-sector campaign in Calgary, 1992
  • CIDA Visiting Scholar, 1990 
  • Alberta Energy Award, 1986, 1987,1990
  • Seagram’s Business Faculty Award, 1972-1973
