I reflect often about how fortunate I am to call myself a Royal Roads graduate.

“Before applying, I did extensive research on the available university options. Would I be able to complete this degree while working? Would it truly help me in my career and would it be all that I hoped for? Through it all, the MA in International and Intercultural Communications at Royal Roads exceeded my expectations, and while I worked hard, with the support of my husband and sons it was tremendously rewarding every step of the way.

The best part of the two-year degree was the overseas residency. We spent a few weeks at Shandong Normal University in Jinan, China, accompanied by RRU faculty. It was an incredible experience to be immersed in that level of culture and education at the same time; I consider it one of the most memorable learning experiences of my life.

So, how has this degree helped me in the field of journalism? At this time in world history when an increase in intercultural competencies is greatly needed, this degree has empowered me to develop essential intercultural communication skills, both in the field as a reporter and as an instructor in a post-secondary environment. I reflect often about how fortunate I am to call myself a Royal Roads graduate.”
