Royal Roads University is pleased to welcome naturalist, writer, educator and broadcaster, Dr. Briony Penn as its 13th Robert Bateman Lecturer, August 8, 2017. Please join us for this year’s lecture “Artivism: Imagination and Intuition on the Front Lines.”

Penn is a tireless and passionate advocate for and protector of the natural world. Through words, illustrations and maps, lectures and mentorship, she expresses her deep aesthetic sensibility and belief that there is a more just, sane, biodiverse and possible world by pushing the edges of culture as an art-ivist – informing and inspiring action through creativity and art.

Penn received a national Environment Learning Award from Canadian Geographic in 2013, and the B.C. Book Prizes Roderick Haig Brown Award in 2016 for her book The Real Thing: The Natural History of  Ian McTaggart Cowan.

The event is free and open to the public.

Royal Roads University celebrates Robert Bateman’s ongoing legacy of environmental practice, communication and education annually through this lecture series.
