Who it's for
Ideally, participants in the program are working professionals with bachelor's degrees and at least two years experience working in an area concerned generally with environmental education and communication. Students should be capable of handling advanced technical and public policy issues, must be able to understand the literature in the field, and must demonstrate practical experience directly related to education and communication.
As knowledgeable professionals, students should already know about the complexities of current problems and about the challenges faced by environmental educators and communicators. This program will allow them to widen their perspective on environmental issues, deepen their understanding of those areas essential to being a skilled educator and/or communicator, and develop attributes essential to effective leadership.
Students are seeking opportunities to work with similarly experienced professionals from different areas of environmental education and communication, to engage in core classes, co-operative projects, team planning, and group discussions to reach a better understanding of the language, expertise, and concerns of the widest possible range of environmental professionals. Learners should recognize that the distance component, an important feature of the program, enables them to continue their full-time employment while completing their graduate studies.
