Prerequisite(s): N/A
Standard Admission
- Four year arts/science undergraduate degree at a recognized university, or acceptable alternative
- Minimum two years of related full-time experience in the field of environmental education and/or communication
Flexible Admission
- To be considered for Flexible Admission, applicants would normally require a minimum of two years related full-time experience in the field of environmental education and/or communication.
Additional Recommendations for Admission
Our program is designed to be of most benefit to environmental practitioners who have an interest in, or a responsibility for, leadership and sustainable decision-making. As such, work and volunteer experience are key requirements of admission to the program.

Detailed Resume: Your detailed resume should include the following:
- Education: List all post secondary education, degrees, diplomas, and certificates you have achieved.
- Other Training/Professional Development
- Work Experience
- Voluntary/Unpaid Work Experience: List and describe any voluntary/unpaid post-secondary employment and/or community service experience. Please include the name of the organization, length of service, and a brief description of duties. List positions you have held in this service.
- Information Technology Training and Experience: Briefly describe your level of training and experience in the use of information technology including computers, software and telecommunications networks as tools for business, education, teaching and personal use.
- Professional Memberships and Affiliations
- Publications and relevant projects completed
Letters of Reference
Ideally, one reference letter is based on your work experience; the other on either your academic performance or your community service. However, two work-related references are acceptable in certain cases. Reference letters are individual documents that can take a number of formats. Length and level of detail can vary; there is no set standard. That said, your reference letters should confirm that your referee feels you are a suitable candidate for the Graduate Diploma in Environmental Education and Communication, that you will succeed in the program and why, how he or she feels it will benefit you, and any additional information from the referee that indicates you are a good fit for this program. The context in which the referee has come to know you should also be mentioned.
Resume
A detailed, or structured resume provides as much detail as possible about where you have worked, for how long, and what you were responsible for in the positions you have held. Provide as much information as possible, with special attention to the past ten years of your education and career. As a guideline, your resume should include the following:
- Employment history
- Training and professional development
- Voluntary/unpaid work experience
- Information technology training and experience
- Professional memberships and affiliations
- Publications and relevant projects completed
- Other relevant information.
Personal Statement
Your personal statement should indicate your motivation for seeking entrance to the program, your personal and career goals, expectations of the program in relation to the achievement of your goals, and the strengths you feel you could bring to the program. Length of the personal statement should be two pages.
