Online BCom

The two-year online BCom program begins with a two-week online activity, Bridge to BCom. The BCom program is offered primarily through online study combined with a total of three mandatory residency periods: a two-week session at the start, a two-week residency at the mid-point, and a final one-week residency near the end of the program. This delivery model makes use of new information technologies while allowing students to keep their careers and lifestyle commitments.

Upon completion of the Bridge to BCom, students will be immersed in a Foundational Business Skills course. This course combines concepts from a number of disciplines to provide the building blocks for a framework of thinking that will set students up for success throughout the program and beyond.  The skills learned during Foundational Business Skills will be strengthened throughout the program and particularly during the Applied Business Challenges course that is delivered in one week blocks between various distant learning sessions.

An important component of this program is the Capstone Project. The Capstone Project integrates the learning derived from all the courses and relates this learning to entrepreneurial thinking, and/or corporate responsibility, and/or doing business in a global economy. The resulting project includes a professional presentation, and either a plan for a new venture or a business consulting project that addresses a business problem or management issue.

Students put their skills to the test during the annual Royal Roads University International Undergraduate Case Competition (RRUIUCC) and the Venture Challenge.

Foundational Business Skills (FBS) and the Applied Business Challenges (ABC) are unique experiences that weave together the Bachelor of Commerce Program Learning Outcomes.  In addition, concepts from a number of disciplines are integrated to help students develop and exercise foundational skills and perspectives that are key to success throughout the program and beyond.

Various methodologies are used in FBS to provide students with tools and techniques required to identify and solve problems in cases, write reports and present findings both as individuals and as part of a team.  The learning becomes even more applied during ABC when students are immersed in experiences designed to truly bring the real world into the classroom and to take the classroom into the real world. Activities may include live cases as well as specific business challenges and/or field trips.
