On Campus BCom
This intensive program is unique in that it provides years three and four of a conventional four-year business degree in 12 months. By eliminating the long breaks characteristic of traditional programs, it condenses the third and fourth year of study and allows students to complete two years of university courses in 12 months. The total on-campus attendance is approximately 45 weeks.
The calendar year is organized on a quarterly system with each quarter approximately 10 weeks long. The BCom program begins with a required two-week online activity, Bridge to BCom, which continues on-campus for three more weeks as Foundational Business Skills (FBS). FBS weaves together concepts from a number of disciplines to provide the building blocks for a framework of thinking that will set students up for success throughout the program and beyond. The skills learned during FBS will be strengthened throughout the program and particularly during the Applied Business Challenges (ABC) that are held during the first week of quarters 2, 3 and 4.
An important component of the program is a Capstone Project that integrates learning derived from all courses in the program and relates this learning to entrepreneurial thinking and/or corporate responsibility and/or doing business in a global economy. The project results in a professional presentation and either a plan for a new venture or a business consulting project that addresses a business problem or management issue.
Students put their skills to the test during the annual Royal Roads University International Undergraduate Case Competition (RRUIUCC) and the Venture Challenge.
Full-time undergraduate housing is not available on campus. Please visit our Housing page for information on off-campus housing.
Foundational Business Skills (FBS) and the Applied Business Challenges (ABC) are unique experiences that weave together the Bachelor of Commerce Program Learning Outcomes. In addition, concepts from a number of disciplines are integrated to help students develop and exercise foundational skills and perspectives that are key to success throughout the program and beyond.
Various methodologies are used in FBS to provide students with tools and techniques required to identify and solve problems in cases, write reports and present findings both as individuals and as part of a team. The learning becomes even more applied during ABC when students are immersed in experiences designed to truly bring the real world into the classroom and to take the classroom into the real world. Activities may include live cases as well as specific business challenges and/or field trips.
