The Royal Roads University Learning Model
Most programs at Royal Roads University are delivered through a combination of Internet-based learning and short, on-campus residencies. Our undergraduate completion programs – which cover years three and four of a Bachelor’s degree – are also delivered through an intensive 12-month model on our campus in Victoria, B.C. These options accommodate the different needs of students - to balance work, family and education, or to focus on quickly completing an undergraduate degree in an intensive, face-to-face format. Both models make extensive use of team-based learning to provide students with insights into leadership and organizational dynamics. Both offer a challenging and supportive learning community that fosters personal and professional achievement.
Balancing Work, Life and Study
Keep working. Keep learning. Keep your life. That’s the philosophy behind Royal Roads University. The University was created exclusively to meet the advanced education needs of people in the workplace – people who want to advance their careers but who don’t want and can’t afford to quit work and disrupt their family life in order to return to school. In combining short on-campus residencies with Internet-based distance education, our innovative learning model fits our students' lifestyles.
The Blended Learning Model
Blended learning describes the combination of on-line learning and short residency periods that make up the delivery model for many programs at Royal Roads University. This model minimizes disruption to the work and home lives of students and fosters team-based learning – on and off campus. The short residencies on our beautiful heritage campus in Victoria, B.C. give you direct interaction with other students and senior faculty members. The initial residency also includes team-building exercises and guidance to the online learning program component to ensure that distance never has to mean isolation. Royal Roads University has developed unique interactive and collaborative tools that foster teamwork even when students are scattered across the country or around the world. We use technology to extend and, in some cases, improve interaction and communication among students and faculty members. For more information, see Is RRU Right For You?
