Campus Construction Update

February 12, 2016

As you may have noticed, there are a number of construction/renovation projects currently underway on campus. Renovation work is phased to minimize the impact of construction activities on campus activities; however, you may notice some detours and slight service changes while work is underway. The attached update (PDF) provides detailed information on the current projects on campus.

Library renovation update: Starting Monday February 15th, the principal entrance to the library will be moved temporarily to the east end of the building (the side closest to the castle). The main entrance will undergo renovation work to expand and enhance the entry way. Signage will be posted to direct library users to the alternate route into the building. Parking lot #6, adjacent to the library (west side) continues to be closed temporarily. The footpath connecting Hatley Castle and the library offers barrier-free access.

Millward elevator update: A new elevator is being installed in the Millward building. Until March, while the elevator is out of commission, access to the Millward building will continue via the main entrance, and using the stairs. Barrier-free access to Millward residence floors (4th, 5th and 6th) will be available using the Nixon elevator.

Lighting update: Adding to energy efficiencies that will be gained through updates to the heating systems in Millward, Nixon and Grant, RRU will also upgrade exterior lighting on the campus. New LED fixtures are being installed across the campus, enhancing safety and positioning RRU to reach greenhouse gas targets.

Safety First! Please watch for construction personnel and vehicles or equipment working in and around the campus core. As needed, signage will be posted to guide visitors and members of the RRU community around localized work sites.

Thank you for your continued patience as this work is underway.
