Faculty of Management Exams

Exam Rules and Student Instructions

All students are expected to familiarize themselves and abide by the Faculty of Management Exam Rules and Instructions for Students.

Failure to adhere to any of the Faculty of Management Exam Rules and/or Student Instructions will be reported to the Royal Roads University Exam Coordinators and will be escalated to the School Director for review. Further action may be taken in accordance with RRU’s Academic Integrity and Misconduct Policy.

Exam Conditions

Students are expected to come to exams prepared with any items they may need. Sharing of calculators, textbooks, dictionaries, etc during exams will not be permitted. You are not allowed to access any electronic devices during exams, except calculators if they are permitted. You are advised to leave valuables and personal belongings at home as they will not be allowed in your exam writing area.

Calculator Policy

Calculators may or may not be permitted in your exam. Please refer to the Faculty of Management’s Calculator Guidelines for a list of approved calculators.

E-Books

Electronic versions of textbooks are not permitted in exams. If you are taking a course with a final exam that permits use of your textbook you are advised to purchase a hard copy textbook. Please consult your instructor regarding whether you will have a final exam for your course and whether the exam will be Open Book.

Types of Exams: Open and Closed Book

See below for definitions of OPEN and CLOSED book (and variations) for Faculty of Management Exams.

Closed Book:

  • No materials are allowed in the exam space that are not provided in the exam package.

Restricted Open Book: 

  • In addition to the exam package, only specified books or hand-outs are allowed. Handwritten notes are allowed in the text book, but any other loose notes or papers are not allowed.

OPEN Book:

  • In addition to the exam package, any versions of the course text book(s) are allowed. Handwritten notes are allowed in the text book, but any other loose notes or papers are not allowed.

OPEN Book and OPEN Notes:

  • In addition to the exam package, any versions of the course text book(s) are allowed along with any other paper documents, books or notes (electronic notes are not allowed).
