Exam Deferrals

Alternate exam dates are only granted in extenuating circumstances and may require Program Manager approval. If an alternate exam date is approved, rescheduling and cancellation fees may apply. Alternate exam dates are determined by your Program Office.

Illness or Injury

If you experience serious illness or injury the day of your exam you may be eligible for an alternate exam. Where possible notify the RRU Exams Office or your external invigilation site in advance of your absence using the contact information provided in your Exam Confirmation email.   

Supporting Documentation

A Medical Certificate for Deferred Exam must be completed and submitted by your Physician’s office within 72 hours of the missed exam. Letters from a physician in lieu of this form will not be accepted. Failure to submit this documentation will result in an “INC” grade or in the case of a rewrite exam a “F”.

Bereavement

If you require an alternate exam date for bereavement you must complete an Application for Alternate Exam Date form and submit it to the Exams Office within 72 hours of the missed exam.

Supporting Documentation:

A death certificate or obituary must be submitted to the Exams Office. Failure to submit this documentation will result in an “INC” grade or in the case of an exam rewrite a “F”.

Fees

Waived pending supporting documentation. Exam rescheduling and cancellation fees will only be waived for those students whose immediate family member has passed away (parent, step-parent, spouse, child, step-child, brother, sister, father or mother in-law, grandparent, grandchild, son or daughter in-law, or any other relative permanently residing in the student’s household or with whom the student currently resides).

Other

If you require an alternate exam date for reasons other than illness/injury or bereavement you must complete an Application for Alternate Exam Date form and submit it to your Program Manager for approval in advance of your exam.

Documentation may be requested by your Program Manager.

Fees

Students are required to pay applicable fees for exams that must be rescheduled for reasons other than illness/injury or bereavement. The fees must be paid prior to sitting the rescheduled exam.

Rescheduling Fees*

  • $285 per exam (for exams to be written within North America)
  • $399 per exam (for exams to be written outside North America)

Cancellation Fees*

  • Failure to provide a minimum of two full business days’ notice to reschedule an exam will result in an additional cancellation fee of $106 per exam.
