JUST401: History and Philosophy of Law in the Canadian Context from 1867

Course Description

Introduces the student to important philosophical principles of liberal political theory that have had a major influence upon the political and legal developments in Canada since 1867. Presents a liberal justice response to recent challenges in our self-understanding as Canadians. Reveals philosophical underpinnings of the Canadian legal system. Emphasises the present Canadian context that includes liberalism, multiculturalism (minority rights) and Indigenous concepts of justice. Prerequisite: JUST303
