INDS545: Video Research Methods

Course Description

Introduces the principles, styles, and strategies that characterize research-based audio-visual (i.e. video) communication. Teaches students the mechanics of research-based video production and distribution using various styles and channels. Considers the role and responsibilities of the professional researcher intent on publishing in popular media. Teaches the basics of how to write, shoot, and edit research-based nonfiction video documentary productions for TV and VOD broadcasting. Students will learn to plan and execute pre-production, become organized to handle production logistics and plan location shooting, learn about image control and camera operation, understand the fundamentals of lighting and exposure, and learn to practice sound recording, visual composition and coverage. Covers interviewing and action filming, as well as editing, exporting, and publishing. *pending approval
