Canadian Forces Education Leave
Most RRU programs have residency periods ranging from a few days for shorter programs and up to three three-week residencies over a two-year program. Occasionally, leave and time off for continuing education can be an obstacle. Many CF and DND learners take annual leave to cover residency periods. In addition to annual leave there is a provision (CFAO 16-1 Leave) for Officers Commanding a Command (OCC) to grant 30 calendar days special leave in a year for academic advancement. It is understood that a request for this leave cannot be approved nor denied below that level. CF policy also encourages supervisors to permit time during the work week for learners to pursue academic advancement.
Royal Roads University works closely with the Canadian Defence Academy to ensure easy access to CF & DND education policies, many of which are noted in subsequent pages on this web site. View the full CDA website.
