Leadership Challenge
Imagine…
Having a team of experts advising your organization on your most pressing leadership challenges.
Now, imagine having that expert assistance virtually free of charge.
At Royal Roads University, we believe learning is enhanced when it is both experiential and interactive, so we immerse our students in the challenge of solving real-life problems drawn from the most demanding of leadership contexts.
At Royal Roads University we are committed to working with our students and corporate clients to make a real difference in how leadership is practiced personally and organizationally. Our goal is to provide relevance and value for our students and clients in all of our programs.
At the core of many of our leadership programs is the Leadership Challenge.
What is a Leadership Challenge?
A Leadership Challenge ™is a complex, current, unresolved, authentic problem or dilemma facing an organization from the public, private or not-for-profit sector.
The Leadership Challenge is identified, developed and presented to students in many of our Master’s and Executive Development programs in cooperation with a sponsoring organization – the organization that is facing the challenge.
Students, usually in teams of six to eight, have one week to work on the challenge. At the end of the week, each team presents its recommendations to a discussion panel from the sponsoring organization.
During the week, students attend theme sessions and workshops on key skills related to leadership, systems thinking, learning, organizations and communication. The Leadership Challenge becomes the laboratory for learners to practice and develop their leadership skills.
Why Does Royal Roads University Use Leadership Challenges?
Today’s organizations want professional development programs to provide their employees with enhanced competencies
to tackle the complex issues facing the organization. Today’s professionals want no less. They want to learn the latest theory and they also want to learn how to apply it to real situations. We understand this at Royal Roads University.
Our leadership programs focus on applying theory in a highly integrated fashion to address real life leadership challenges from the workplace.
Why Should an Organization Share its Leadership Challenge?
By sharing your Leadership Challenge with our students, your organization gains a fresh perspective from innovative professionals with a broad spectrum of experience and knowledge and from many different sectors of our economy. As
one employer representative said:
“It’s like having 52 organizational development consultants working for you for free!”
