New faces at Communication and Culture

Public relations academic Julia Jahansoozi and communications scholar Chaseten Remillard have joined the School of Communication and Culture as core faculty.

Before joining Royal Roads, Jahansoozi taught at the University of Stirling, in Scotland, from 2008 where she developed and was the program director for the MSc Strategic Public Relations (double degree with Lund University, Sweden). Prior to this Jahansoozi worked at the University of Central Lancashire from 2001 to 2008.

Jahansoozi’s key research interests include organization-community relationships, stakeholder engagement and collaboration, corporate social responsibility and development communication.

Remillard comes to Royal Roads after teaching communications at the University of Calgary and Mount Royal University. He was nominated for a University of Calgary teaching award in 2009. He has also instructed at international colleges in India and Costa Rica.

A communications scholar interested in questions of social and environmental justice, Remillard’s expertise is in visual and professional communications. His research includes topics as varied as homelessness, Canadian artist Bill Reid, hockey art, the Alberta oil sands and shark films.

The School of Communication and Culture is also pleased to announce Virginia McKendry as new program head for the MA in Professional Communication program.  McKendry has successfully run the BA in Professional Communication program for the past three years and accepted the offer to take over the master’s program in April.

Jeffrey Orr will take on the role as program head for the BA in Professional Communication program. Orr has taught with the bachelor’s program since 2012. Prior to joining Royal Roads, he was assistant professor at Beykent University Turkey, and assistant professor at Fatih University, both located in Turkey. Orr was Turkey's editor of Poetry & Audience Magazine, UK.
