Hay'sxw'qa si'em! I am deeply honoured to have been chosen as Royal Roads University’s new president and vice-chancellor and to join this community of lifelong learners.
I have always been impressed by Royal Roads University’s innovative model of post-secondary education. In just 23 years, the university has created an enviable track record of achievement and an impressive draw for students and scholar-practitioners engaged at the leading edge of 21st-century learning. I am thrilled to be part of this powerful learning community and inspired by the huge promise of Royal Roads.
The privilege of working on the traditional lands of the Xwsepsum (Esquimalt) and Lkwungen (Songhees) ancestors and families is profound to me. I am mindful that the land has been integral to Indigenous communities long before colonial settlement, and I am committed to acknowledging this history while co-creating our future in a positive way. I approach this work with gratitude and a true spirit of reconciliation.
Just like students and scholars who gather at this spectacular place on the shore of Esquimalt Lagoon, I too am embracing a path of learning this year. I want to hear and understand what Royal Roads means to you, and I promise to promote the culture of collaboration and inclusion that makes Royal Roads University so special—not only to individuals whose lives are shaped by their experience here—but also to the West Shore, the Capital Region, Greater Vancouver and global communities.
I am committed to working with you as we embark on the university’s next phase. I invite you to reach out to me at any time, on any issue, and I look forward to connecting with you in the future.
