Accessibility Committee

Sarah Burrough grew up in the Fraser Valley but has lived in Victoria since 2008. She joined Royal Roads in spring 2022 after 14 years at the University of Victoria. She decided to join this committee because she has a deep-rooted passion for fostering inclusive educational environments.

Her professional journey spans more than two decades in post-secondary education. Sarah has worked at four different institutions in central and academic departments. She has also had the experience of being a student in the past, having completed her bachelor’s degree at SFU in 2006. She is currently completing her master’s degree at UVic, studying educational psychology (special education) with a focus on inclusive education in post-secondary settings.

Her commitment to accessibility and inclusivity extends beyond the professional realm. As a parent of two children with exceptionalities, she has firsthand experience navigating the complex landscapes of both the public health and education systems. This role has imparted her with a comprehensive understanding of the unique obstacles that individuals with exceptionalities face and has fueled her drive to advocate for solutions.

She is excited about the opportunity to contribute to the committee's mission of enhancing accessibility on campus and commits to creating tangible, sustainable changes that will remove barriers to education and empower students of all abilities.
