Biography: As an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Management (FoM), Amy Zidulka teaches Business Communications and coordinates the FoM Communications programming. Amy’s eclectic background includes an MA in English (UVic), a BA in English and Writing (Concordia) and a BSc in Architecture (McGill). Since starting at Royal Roads in 2001, Amy has immersed herself in the discipline of Business, collaborating with her colleagues to ensure the Communication classes are relevant to FoM learners.
Amy enjoys the challenge of helping people express intricate concepts clearly and succinctly. In 2004-2005, she co-coached the undergraduate Business Case Competition team, which went on to win first place at two national competitions. Since 2003, she has collaborated with Laura Rittenhouse, President of New York’s ANDBeyond Communications, who correlates the language of shareholder letters with financial results.
Amy’s other professional interests include management education and new faculty development. She is an accredited Instructional Skills Workshops facilitator who leads workshops to help new faculty develop as teachers.
From 1993-2003, Amy worked as a self-employed artist, specializing in painting watercolours of commercial fishing boats in Alaska. She is currently working on a book about Alaskan fishing communities and in 2006 completed the Banff Centre’s Wired Writing Studio, which provides emerging writers with the opportunity to be mentored by an established Canadian author.
In her free time, Amy reads, bikes, and goes to the park with her young son. When their son doesn’t eat the pieces, Amy and her husband enjoy playing chess.
