Work-related Experience
: Ted is currently a core faculty member in the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management at Royal Roads University. Ted’s previous teaching career includes 15 years with the School of Tourism at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops and six years in the Tourism Management Program at Fleming College in Peterborough Ontario. His industry experience includes a variety of positions in various CP Hotels across Canada, working in the Marketing department for the Ministry of Tourism in Alberta and representing the City of Calgary as the Convention Sales Manager. In addition he has consulted on a variety of projects for a diverse range of clients including the Jamaican Tourist Board, The Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council, Human Resources Development Canada and Meeting Professionals International.

Education: Ted’s formal education includes a Diploma in Tourism Management, an Instructors Diploma and a Masters Degree in International Tourism Management from Southern Cross University in Australia.

Research Interests: Much of Ted’s research work has focused on the development of occupational standards for various positions in the special event management and convention management fields. Ted is also a member of the educational advisory group for Destination Marketing Association International and the Hotel Sales and Marketing Association International.

Publications: Ted is the Co-Author of Meetings and Conventions: A Planning Guide. Additionally he has been a contributor to numerous documents developed by the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council dealing with certification of special events managers and coordinators.

Personal: In addition to extensive travel in North America Ted has travelled throughout Southeast Asia, Patagonia Chile and Ireland. Closer to home Ted’s interests include learning to play the mandolin, cooking and experiencing Vancouver Island with his wife, Judy.
