Based in Victoria, B.C., Sharlene Smith is a communication management consultant educated in public relations and business administration. Before establishing her own consulting firm, CommPlan Canada in 1997, Sharlene acquired 20 years of experience in communications, public relations and management from senior positions in municipal, Crown corporation and provincial governments as well as the private sector in British Columbia and Saskatchewan.
Specializing in communication management services, Sharlene has a reputation for combining strategic thinking with the practical ability to get things done. In addition to her consulting practice, she is a founding member and instructor in the University of Victoria public relations certificate program and the Royal Roads University graduate certificate in public relations management.
Sharlene has been a member of the Canadian Public Relations Society since 1980 and was accredited by the Society in 1987. She has served on numerous local and national CPRS committees and is credited with having revived the Vancouver Island chapter in 1991. Currently she is the presiding officer of the CPRS National Council on Accreditation. In 2003, she was inducted into the Society’s College of Fellows and awarded the Lamp of Service, Canada’s most coveted public relations award for an individual member, for her work in public relations education.
Sharlene has extensive volunteer experience in other organizations as well, having held a number of leadership and membership positions with federal, provincial and local non-profit organizations and government advisory committees.
