Bart and his firm have specialized in major change, conflict and crisis communication/management, issues management and strategic communications planning since 1990. He is the principal author of the 1988 book,
No Surprises: The Crisis Communications Management System, which was the first practical guide to developing and planning organizational crisis management/communications plans and processes.
During the past 19 years, he has counseled clients in some of the highest profile issues and crises in Canada, and his firm develops crisis communications and issues management plans for organizations in all sectors, as well as conducts training sessions and simulations to test plans and train people. His firm has been involved with dozens of high profile crisis and issues, from the collapse of the Red Cross and the multi-billion dollar failure of Confederation Life to preventing crises at the world's largest ever one day rock concert and defusing what was called the sports scandal of the 20th century. He and his partner are frequent presenters at conferences and corporate retreats. The firm also has developed and licenses for use a series of communications-based training programs to help managers think, plan and behave strategically in their communications; break down cross-cultural barriers to effective communications; and, how to plan and develop effective issues/briefing notes.
Bart, with 40 years of experience in public relations, is an Accredited member of the Canadian Public Relations Society, an elected member of its College of Fellows, and a member of the Counselors Academy of the Public Relations Society of America. He is an Associate Faculty member in the Public Relations/Communications program at both Royal Roads University’s Faculty of Management and the Centre for Applied Leadership and Management.
Bart has won numerous national awards for his work and leadership (including the prestigious Philip A. Novikoff Memorial Award in 2006 for professional excellence and contributing the body of knowledge in public relations), and has been published in numerous Canadian and U.S. journals and magazines.

Leadership@Work: How to be an Effective Team Leader Anywhere, Anytime, with Anyone, with Dr. Harvey Silver, which was 2001’s fifth best selling business book in Canada and was on the business book best sellers' list for 10 months. Bart’s latest book—
Parenting Your Parents: Support Strategies for Meeting the Challenge of Aging in the Family, co-authored with Dr. Michael Gordon—was published in June, 2002, with a revised edition in March, 2005, and is also now a best seller. An American version was published in late 2006.
Bart is a director of the Communication & Public Relations Foundation, as well as the Psychology Foundation of Canada, and Chair of the College of Fellows of the Canadian Public Relations Society. He is the Canadian Contributing Editor for Public Relations Quarterly magazine. He is Immediate Past President of The Empire Club of Canada.
Prior to co-founding TMRC, he held senior management positions with large and mid-sized PR firms and was chief communications officer for Canada’s largest chemical company.
