Mia holds a BA in Mathematics and Sociology from the University of Alberta, and an MBA in Strategy and Entrepreneurship from the University of Victoria. Mia’s MBA thesis, "The David Approach: Strategy for David Companies in a Goliath World", was submitted by the Faculty of Business for the Governor General's Silver Medal. She is also holds a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation.
She has over 20 years work experience in a variety of industries including software development, audio electronics manufacturing, CD-ROM development and manufacturing, audit/consulting, the airline industry, and fitness/health. Prior to becoming a consultant, Mia was chief financial officer and chief operating officer for IVL Technologies Ltd, a local audio technology company and one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers according to MacLean’s magazine. During her tenure at IVL, Mia assisted the company in raising over $10 million in funds for expansion, and was involved in many international initiatives including a strategic partnership with a large Japanese company and the creation of a joint subsidiary with a high profile Danish audio company. Through her consulting business, Quimper Consulting Inc., she has performed risk management for the B.C. Ferries Super “C” program and assisted many technology companies with issues such as succession planning, business planning, transfer pricing policies and U.S. taxes.
She has been facilitating and teaching for over 15 years over a broad spectrum of topics. Currently, she specializes in strategic planning workshops, moderates for the Strategic Leadership Program for CMA Canada - British Columbia and is a sessional instructor at Royal Roads University for the Faculty of Management, Entrepreneurship program.
