Mr. Ernie Fraser, BA, MA
Area of Expertise: Strategic communications

Over his career, Ernie Fraser has worked in senior communications, research and human resources positions in federal and provincial agencies. In 1999, he established a consulting practice, specializing in strategic communications, organizational communications, facilitation services, emergency communications, issue management and media relations.

In communications and research positions during more than 16 years with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Ernie specialized in corporate positioning, radio and television program communications, public relations and audience research. He led communications and research projects for the CBC in every province, the Yukon and Northwest Territories, including the area now called Nunavut. Ernie had responsibility for the first systematic audience research in Canada’s northern territories.

As a senior communications manager in provincial government ministries and agencies in British Columbia, Ernie has established communications operations and managed many strategic communications initiatives.

Throughout his career, Ernie has provided communications, research and strategic counsel to senior management of many organizations (public, private and non-profit). He has extensive leadership and management experience with organizational change and corporate positioning. When at the CBC, Ernie represented the corporation on a number of broadcast industry committees and led many audience research projects related to radio and television programming across the country.

In addition to being an associate faculty member at Royal Roads University, Ernie is involved with volunteer leadership roles. He is a member of the International Association of Business Communicators and serves on the board of the Victoria Hospice Society. He is a director of Peacemakers Trust, a Canadian non-profit organization dedicated to research and education on peace building.

Ernie has two grown children, Ben and Anna, who are a significant part of his life. He enjoys spending time with friends, mentoring young adults, watching movies, reading, backpacking and traveling.

Ernie has a BA (sociology) from the University of New Brunswick and a Masters Degree (sociology) from the University of Waterloo. He has also studied broadcasting and art.
