1. What happens to my RRU learner computer account when I graduate?
Your learner computer account will eventually expire. Once this happens, you will no longer be able to access:

  • Your personal files in your learner drives
  • Your workgroup files in your shared drives
  • Your @community.royalroads e-mail account (see FAQ#3)
  • Online research databases (See FAQ#10)

2. When will my leaner computer account expire?
Your learner computer account will normally expire two weeks after convocation. Two weeks before expiration, you should start to receive electronic notices informing you of the scheduled account expiry.

3. What is Email for Life?
Email for Life is a permanent e-mail forwarding service that allows alumni to re-connect to each other after graduation. When grads choose to activate this service, it will forward e-mails sent to their @community.royalroads.ca address to e-mail accounts of their choosing.

We will be maintaining the Email for Life service for students and alumni enrolled in intakes before June 15, 2007 who wish to use it. This service will not be available to those enrolled in intakes after June 15, 2007.

4. Is the Email for Life forwarding service still available?
After providing the Email for Life forwarding service for almost a decade, the changing face of the Internet and electronic communications has prompted the retirement of this service in favour of a much improved alternative, a suite of private messaging tools integrated into the Royal Roads University AlumNet which is an ad-free online networking space, exclusive to our growing alumni community.

We will be maintaining the Email for Life service for students and alumni enrolled in intakes before June 15, 2007 who wish to use it. This service will not be available to those enrolled in intakes after June 15, 2007.

5. How do I stay connected without an @community.royalroads.ca address?
In the fall of 2008 Alumni Relations will be launching and exciting new version of the RRU AlumNet (See FAQ#7). By logging on and setting up a profile on AlumNet, you can stay connected to friends and faculty members.

7. What is the RRU AlumNet?
RRU AlumNet is an ad-free online networking space, exclusive to our growing alumni community. Through RRU AlumNet, you can build your own networks, enhance your career as well as leverage informal learning opportunities. 9. How do I network with fellow alumni in my area?
The Alumni Branch Network is essentially the umbrella under which alumni interact with each other (in-person and/or online) as well as within their communities. Alumni may use their local branch as a source of career, social, and learning opportunities. For more information or to join, please login to the RRU AlumNet to find your branch.

10. How do I access online research databases after graduation?
Due to licensing agreements with the databases vendors, we are only able to provide access to current learners. As such, alumni will no longer have access to the online databases once their learner computer account expires. We have sought - and will continue to seek - ways to provide alumni access, but at present the cost does not make this service viable. Alumni who live near RRU or any other academic library can use licensed resources on a walk-in basis. Note: public libraries are beginning to license similar resources for onsite and remote access by their users. For example, if you are a member of the Greater Victoria Public Library, you can access several databases online such as Access Science, CBCA and Canadian News Stand and EBSCOHOST.

11. What kind of research resources can I access online?

13. How do I order a new diploma?
Royal Roads University will only issue one diploma to each graduate. In the event of a name change or a lost or damaged diploma, the Registrar’s Office will issue a reprint. A graduate must submit a written request and a signed statement indicating the reason for a duplicate diploma. In the case of a damaged diploma, the original must be returned to the Registrar’s Office before a new one will be issued. In the case of a lost diploma, a graduate must submit a written request and a signed statement that the diploma has been lost. The charge for reissuing a diploma is in accordance with the University’s approved ancillary fees. For more information, please visit the Registrar's web pages, or call 250-391-2600, ext. 4862 or e-mail the Registrar's Office.
