ALUMNI NOTEBOOK
You're making a difference around the world!
by Christine Gross, manager, alumni relations
Since we've been asking for your stories and story ideas, we've been receiving numerous submissions from alumni who are happy to share their personal experiences with readers of
InRoads.
From the response, we’ve learned a couple of things: you are definitely reading your online alumni magazine and, holey moley, are you people ever successful!
And for both of these things – we couldn’t be happier.
In fact, the theme for this issue was inspired by the number of alumni we heard from who are truly
making a difference around the world and in their communities.
Graduates like
James Griffiths,
Kristen Petri and
Melahnie Moodie have all found ways to leave the world a better place through sustainable environmental practices, education and innovation while
Ben Johnson and
Heath Johns are piloting a project to make it easier for the rest of us to give back in the cities we live in.
Meanwhile, Vancouver alumni like
Nina Ng and
Bas Brusche - who are co-chairing the Vancouver Alumni Branch - and
Scott Ackerman, Calgary Alumni Branch Chair, are
making a big difference to alumni in their respective cities by bringing graduates together and prolonging the Royal Roads learning experience long after convocation.
You know - I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear one day that one of our graduates has single-handedly discovered a solution for global warming and poverty, probably at the same time.
When that happens, I’ll get to say that I knew it would happen all along so if you could remember to thank me in your Nobel Prize acceptance speech that would be fantastic - or perhaps we can just have a picture for
InRoads?
