1. The Robert Bateman Centre and sustainability projects
At the forefront of our sustainability theme is the Robert Bateman Centre for art and environmental education. The Centre will house Robert Bateman's legacy gift comprised of his paintings, prints, sculptures, photographs, slides, sketchbooks and archives, valued at over $11 million dollars. A lifetime of accomplishments by Canada’s most notable natural history artist will educate and inspire all ages in all walks of life.
More than a gallery, the Robert Bateman Centre will be a model for restoration and rejuvenation. The Centre will celebrate best practices, pushing the boundaries of knowledge about sustainability and environmental understanding. It will celebrate the highest level of leadership and innovation in sustainable development, foster dialogue and collaboration to solve environmental and social challenges, and inspire action to implement solutions.
Building the Robert Bateman Centre for art and environmental education will act as a monumental step forward in our collective journey towards establishing a healthier and more sustainable future.

2. Academic projects
Since its inception in 1997, Royal Roads University has gained an enviable reputation for academic excellence and innovation. Your support of academics will ensure that we continue to reduce financial barriers that might impede our students educational success, provide an enriching learning environment and be a leader in academic innovation through advanced technologies.
The RRU Awards Program recognizes academic excellence and community involvement, assists learners in financial need and promotes cross-cultural interaction and learning. Since 1997, over 1000 awards have been presented to deserving learners.
We are committed to working with our donors to build a stronger student award and financial aid program.
You may choose to award students who have a strong academic record or support those who need financial assistance - or both. There are a variey of awards to choose from:
- Support students who are enrolled in a specific program, eg: BA in Justice Studies or MA in Professional Communication
- Support students with specific fields of interest, eg: humanitarian work or business administration
- Support students who are studying under unique circumstances, eg: single parent or new immigrant
To discover which of the student award funds best speak to you, please contact us to discuss where you would like to offer support.

3. Heritage projects:
Royal Roads University celebrates a rich, natural and human heritage of which we are proud to be a part. Once a lavish family estate, turned naval and military training institution, we are now the only public university in Canada on a National Historic site.
While it is a unique privilege to be situated on the magical grounds of 565-acre Hatley National Park, with the only surviving Edwardian estate in Canada, it also brings many expensive obligations to preserve and maintain the site.
We take our responsibility of stewarding this ecologically diverse campus seriously and are committed to fulfilling this obligation. In absence of ongoing government funding, we are dedicated to fundraising in efforts to enhance the historic buildings and grounds.
You may select a variety of ways to support heritage projects at Royal Roads:
- Support and celebrate the preservation and enhancement of our naval and military history
- Support the maintenance and enhancement of our beautiful heritage gardens, community trails and forests
- Support the restoration and maintenance of our unique heritage buildings
